Science Minister Dr. Monica Musenero emphasized the crucial need for increased funding to overcome obstacles faced by Kiira Motors in advancing their e-mobility projects in a recent address at the 3rd National Science Week, . Established by the government in 2014 to lead local vehicle manufacturing, Kiira Motors has been grappling with limited financial support, hindering its progress.

Dr. Musenero pointed out that for the past two years, the funding received by Kiira Motors has been solely allocated to salaries, leaving the organization unable to make significant strides in its projects. During the event at Kololo Independence Grounds, she expressed gratitude for the support received but stressed the necessity of consistent and sufficient funding for Science, Technology, and Innovations (STIs).

The minister highlighted the challenges of uncoordinated implementation of STIs across various ministries, departments, and agencies in the country. This lack of coordination often leads to disruptions in ongoing innovations, causing setbacks in bringing them to the market.

To further support innovation, Dr. Musenero called for the reduction of taxes on innovative products. She emphasized that regulatory agencies, particularly those unfamiliar with innovations, need to be engaged in collective discussions to foster a more supportive environment.

In her plea to the government, Dr. Musenero also addressed the impact of negative news on the country’s image, asserting that it deters potential investors. She urged the government to take corrective measures to counteract negative publicity and promote a positive perception of the nation for economic growth.
