Ugandan Students Embark on Oil and Gas Studies in China with CNOOC Scholarships

The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Uganda, which operates the Kingfisher oil field in Uganda’s Albertine region, has initiated a program to support Ugandan students in pursuing further studies in the field of oil and gas in China.

These students have been granted scholarships to enroll in a Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering program at China University of Petroleum-East China.




CNOOC’s objective with this scholarship initiative is to enhance the capabilities and skills of individuals in the oil and gas sector, ultimately promoting and ensuring the active participation of Ugandans in the industry.

One of the beneficiaries of this prestigious scholarship, Jean Remmy Amanya, expressed gratitude and joy as he thanked CNOOC Uganda Limited for this valuable opportunity. He also acknowledged his fellow scholarship recipients and highlighted the significance of education as a transformative tool for Uganda and the global community.

Amanya reiterated their commitment to academic excellence and the opportunities presented in China, concluding with congratulations and best wishes for his fellow scholarship recipients.

Liu Xiangdong, the president of CNOOC Uganda Limited, emphasized the company’s steadfast dedication to education, capacity building, and the development of national content in Uganda. Liu also extended his heartfelt congratulations to the scholarship recipients, recognizing their commitment to their studies and their potential as future leaders of Uganda. He expressed gratitude to the parents, guardians, and families present for their unwavering support and emphasized their crucial role in the students’ success.




The send-off ceremony was attended by representatives from various departments within CNOOC Uganda Limited, the scholarship beneficiaries, and their parents, adding to the significance of the occasion.
