Wanseko Ferry Docking Point Faces Erosion

Buliisa Resident District Commissioner, Longino Mbahebwa, has expressed growing apprehension regarding the deteriorating state of the temporary docking point for the ferry at the Wanseko land site. Speaking to Kabalega FM on Monday evening, Mbahebwa highlighted that the temporary docking point, initially constructed as an alternative pending the establishment of a permanent one on the tarmac, is succumbing to water waves, causing significant damage. This poses a potential hindrance for both big and small vehicles to access the Wanseko Ferry.

The Wanseko Ferry, operating three times a day, serves over 500 people on each journey, facilitating crossings from either side. Mbahebwa emphasised that the impending destruction of the docking point could adversely impact business activities on both sides of the ferry route.

District leaders, including Mbahebwa, have reached out to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to address the issue. However, there has been no response from UNRA thus far. Efforts to obtain a comment from UNRA were unsuccessful, with the station Engineer in Masindi unavailable, and UNRA spokesperson Alan Sempebwa reportedly in a meeting. Sempebwa had promised to provide a response but had not done so by the time of press.
