The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), in collaboration with contractor Egis Road Operation, has reported the collection of Sh75 billion in toll fees on the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway as of December 28, 2023. The tolling on this four-lane expressway, which connects Entebbe International Airport to Kampala, began on January 8, 2022.

UNRA conveyed its appreciation to the people of Uganda, especially the road users, for their support in utilizing the expressway. Egis, the contractor responsible for operating and maintaining the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, is compensated separately by UNRA.

The construction of the expressway, funded by China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) at a cost of $350 million, aimed to repay the associated loan through toll gate collections. On May 24, 2021, UNRA handed over the 26.2km expressway, including the 25km toll way section from Busega to Mpala and 1.2km along the Munyonyo Spur Road, to Egis Road Operation for operational management.

Toll fees on the expressway have been in effect since January 8, 2022, with three toll stations located in Mpala, Kajjansi, and Busega. The fee structure is categorized into different vehicle classes: Class 1 (motorcycles 400cc) pays Sh3000 per trip, Class 2 (light vehicles) pays Sh5,000 per trip, Class 3 (medium goods vehicles) pays Sh10,000 per trip, Class 4a (large goods vehicles and buses with 4-5 axles) pays Sh15,000 per trip, and Class 4b (large goods vehicles with 6 or more axles) pays Sh18,000 per trip.

UNRA, in partnership with Egis, has also introduced Upesi cards available for purchase at toll plazas. These cards offer discounts, ranging from 10% for an easy pass to 70% for a monthly pass. The cards are provided free of charge to all motorists intending to use the expressway.
