Thursday, October 26, 2023

In a statement from the army, Maj. Gen. Francis Takirwa, Deputy Commander of Land Forces, officially inaugurated 60 housing units at the 403 Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Matany Sub-county, Napak District, on October 25, 2023. These units, whose construction began on May 25, 2022, are part of a larger project to address accommodation and welfare needs within the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF).

Maj. Gen. Takirwa emphasized that the construction of these housing units aligns with the vision of the Commander-in-Chief to improve the living conditions of security personnel in the UPDF, Police, and Prisons. He stated, “We are now shifting from traditional ways of living to modern ones,” and urged soldiers to maintain the houses and be conscientious about hygiene and sanitation.

Furthermore, Maj. Gen. Takirwa provided financial advice, encouraging soldiers to practice fiscal discipline and prepare for retirement by saving money to initiate income-generating activities. Brig. Gen. Busizoori, the Deputy Commander of the 3rd Division, emphasized that soldiers’ welfare is a top priority for UPDF. He commended the Engineers Construction Regiment of the 3rd Division for their exceptional work and urged them to uphold their professional standards.
