Child Health Month Brings Focus on Polio Immunization

October is observed as Child Health Month worldwide, with a specific emphasis on immunizing children under the age of five against polio. The importance of this immunization cannot be understated, as polio has no known cure, and vaccination is the primary safeguard for children’s health.

Rotary Club’s Commitment to Raising Awareness

On October 28, in honor of the 2023 World Polio Day (WPD), the Rotary Club of Bweyogerere took a proactive step to create greater awareness about the critical importance of polio immunization. George Stephen Okotha, President of the Rotary Club of Bweyogerere Namboole, stressed the pivotal role of immunization in the global efforts to eradicate polio.

“The vaccine is the shield that protects our children from a disease for which there is no cure,” emphasized George Stephen Okotha, underlining the urgency of creating awareness.

Community Turnout and Support

Willy Kasiko, the in-charge of Kireku Health Center III, reported an impressive turnout of community members who actively participated in the immunization drive. This reflects the collective commitment to ensuring children receive the protection they need against polio.

Global Observance of World Polio Day

World Polio Day, recognized worldwide on October 24, brought together nations and organizations under the theme “TOGETHER, WE END POLIO.” This theme underscores the collaborative efforts required to bring an end to this debilitating disease, making events like the one at Kireku Health Center III even more crucial in the ongoing fight against polio.
