Daniel Ojara, Oyam – A conflict that erupted within the Oyam Town Council Youth Bodaboda Association among former leaders in May of this year has resulted in the loss of 7 million shillings belonging to the association.
The lost funds were part of membership savings and donations from well-wishers that were intended to be invested in a low-interest loan scheme for members.
However, due to the internal conflict, 7 million shillings were lost under unclear circumstances. A significant portion of this amount remains unrecovered.
Despite the election of new leaders in September, efforts to recover the lost funds from members who had borrowed money have been unsuccessful.
Otim Aldo, the newly elected General Secretary of the Oyam Town Council Youth Bodaboda Association, says that the loss of the funds has created a significant gap within the association, as members relied on the loan scheme for financial support. The conflict has also discouraged members from repaying their loans.
The Oyam Town Council Youth Bodaboda Association currently has 160 active members.
