Government activities in Soroti City in Teso Sub-region are currently paralyzed by a series of cases under the High Court Soroti against city officials for stealing and releasing their lands.

More than 10 cases have been filed by concerned residents of Soroti against the illegal sale of land and double leasing of public land without owner approval.

Last week, this publication learned that a section of the implicated officials sat in a meeting in Kampala forging a way of compromising judicial officials at Soroti High Court to dismiss all the filed land cases against them.

Other names withheld moved to a witch doctor residing next to Mabira Forest to seek his spiritual powers to overcome the current pressure on them.

Last week, hundreds of concerned residents of Soroti held a baraza meeting at Moru Apesur Primary School, whose land has been sold by the corrupt to an unknown wealthy businessman, which means anytime Moru Apesur Primary School, which is a government-aided school, will be demolished.

It’s noted that land which was formerly North Division Headquarters located in Otucopi has been allegedly sold off to an Indian who’s yet to start developing.

Moses Okiror, one of the Anti-corruption monitors in Soroti, said corruption in Soroti City seems to be benefiting top government officials, adding that they have on several occasions called for emergency transfers of people, including the City Town Clerk of Soroti and others, but no response.

“I think the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, should also be brought to book as to why he has paid deaf ears to removing these thugs from Soroti,” he said.

Barbrah Adoyo, another local, said corruption in Soroti City has made several locals not to enjoy the fruits of having a city in the area.

According to Adoyo, the corrupt city officials spend a lot of money bribing people, especially those who go and carry out investigations on these matters.
