Three government officials from Hoima District have been found guilty of forgery and subsequently sentenced by the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala. The individuals, Hoima District LC5 Vice-Chairperson Benson Chiche, Kiganja sub-county LC5 Councilor and Natural Resources Secretary James Mugenyi Mulindambura, and Finance Secretary Geoffrey Kumakech, were convicted for falsifying executive committee minutes to falsely claim authorization to lease road equipment in Kiryandongo District to private individuals.
These officials were arrested in 2021 by the State House Anti-Corruption unit in collaboration with the police and have since been undergoing trial. The Anti-Corruption Court has now imposed a fine of Shs 5 million on each convict, or a 10-year prison sentence.
The presiding Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate, Joan Achiro, delivered the sentence, while Senior State Attorney Gloria Inzukuru informed the trio that they have 14 days to appeal the judgment if they wish to do so.
