The trial of Ronnie Okello Ameri, the finance manager at Kisiizi Church of Uganda Hospital in Rukungiri District, accused of embezzling shillings 1.2 billion, is scheduled to resume on Monday, February 5, 2024.

The Nakasero-based Anti-Corruption Court Judge Margaret Tibulya set the trial date after the prosecution affirmed their readiness to present witnesses.

The alleged embezzlement, said to have occurred between January 2019 and March 2021 during Ameri’s tenure as the hospital’s finance manager, is the basis of the charges he is facing. Ameri has denied these charges.

Accused under section 19 of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2009, as amended, if found guilty, Ameri could face up to 14 years in prison or a fine not exceeding shillings 6.7 million, or both. Moreover, under section 46 of the same Act, a conviction for embezzlement carries a disqualification from holding public office for 10 years.
