Lira High Court Blocks Dickson Ogwang Okul from Claiming Lango Paramount Chief Title

LIRA, Uganda — Justice Phillip Odoki has issued a temporary injunction in Lira High Court restraining Ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul from taking over the office of the Lango Paramount Chief of the Lango Cultural Foundation (Won Nyaci), as gazetted by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.

The injunction also prohibits him from carrying out any activities that portray him as the elected Won Nyaci of the Lango Cultural Foundation.




This ruling was delivered by Justice Phillip Odoki on Monday, October 28, 2024, via an email communication.




The application was filed by Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, Willie Omodo Omodo Kagere, and George Ojwang Opota.




According to the judgment, circulated in a soft copy via email, it states: “In the end, I find that this application has merit; it is accordingly granted.

The respondents and their agents are hereby restrained from participating in any activity leading to the handover of the office of the Paramount Chief of Lango to the third respondent, informing the Minister responsible for Culture that the third applicant is the newly elected Paramount Chief for the purpose of causing his name to be published in the gazette, and carrying out any other acts to portray the third respondent as the Paramount Chief of Lango pending the final determination of civil suit no. 10 of 2024.

The costs of this application shall abide by the outcome of civil suit no. 10 of 2024,” reads part of the ruling by Justice Phillip Odoki.




The respondents in this case include Obia Denis Acila, Okii Benjamin, Dickson Ogwang Okul, Dr. Okello Dan, among others.
