The ongoing divorce showdown between city magnate Drake Lubega and his now estranged partner, Jalia Nagawa Lubega, has unveiled its latest act. Nagawa is apparently seeking an allowance of USD 50,000 (roughly Shs180M) a month as maintenance fees from her former flame, until the saga reaches its dramatic conclusion in court.

This colorful narrative spans nearly two decades of matrimonial twists and turns, leaving the onlookers entertained. Nagawa, once united with Lubega for a nearly legendary stint of marital longevity, eventually threw in the towel several years back, citing irreconcilable romantic skirmishes. The situation was so dire that not even a council of family members, religious leaders, and close companions could salvage the wreckage of their love.

Nagawa’s legal offensive was initiated by dragging Lubega into the spotlight of the Makindye-based High Court Family Division under case file No. DC 140/2020. She demanded the annulment of their marital journey, pointing fingers at domestic discord and alleged cruelty on Lubega’s part. Notably, the soap opera-worthy plot includes two miscarriages on Nagawa’s side, attributed to the tumultuous relationship.

Yet, the twist continues. Nagawa, accompanied by her legal knights from Lufunya Associated Advocates, launched a strategic missile via case file No. HCT-00-FDMA-0402-2023, urging the court to mandate Lubega to fund her upkeep during this legal tango. The hefty sum of Shs180M is earmarked for sustenance, spanning gastronomic pursuits, wardrobe dilemmas, medical bills, and any other potentially luxurious necessities.

Of course, amidst the legal theatrics, the property division dispute takes center stage. The couple’s shared portfolio of 30 properties in and around Kampala becomes the contested treasure. Nagawa, displaying her knack for numerics, wishes to acquire five buildings as her parting gift. Adding to the spectacle, she calls for alimony in the tune of hundreds of millions of shillings and a casual USD 5 million in cash. Let’s not forget the grand finale: the demand for a house in the upscale Munyonyo neighborhood.

Lubega’s colorful romantic portfolio extends beyond Nagawa. He apparently expanded his love venture, tying the knot with another, Benita Lubega. A serial wedding enthusiast, Lubega encountered marital turbulence yet again, leading to his separation from Benita in 2012. She followed a similar script, accusing him of domestic theatrics and business sabotage. As the saga unfolds, it’s clear that Lubega’s charm isn’t exactly a guarantee for lifelong devotion.

While the court’s gavel awaits its cue for the next scene, we can’t help but wonder if this legal symphony will reach a crescendo or end up as a series finale left on a cliffhanger. Until then, we’re all ears for the next episode of ‘As the Divorce Papers Shuffle.’
