The Kigezi region police are currently investigating the sudden death of Gideon Akankwasa, a 38-year-old court bailiff, in Nyakambu-Kekubo Kabale Town. The incident was reported on Monday morning, with the police spokesperson, Elly Maate, providing details surrounding the circumstances.

According to Maate, at approximately 5 am on January 15, Hategeka Saverino, the wife of businessman Mwunva Mbonigaba, discovered Akankwasa’s lifeless body near the garage of their residence. She promptly notified her husband, who then reported the case of sudden death or potential murder to the Kabale Central police station.

Gideon Akankwasa, a resident of Kanoni Village in Maziba sub-county, Kabale district, had been employed as a court bailiff in the Rukungiri district magisterial area. His sudden demise has raised questions, prompting a comprehensive investigation by the police’s homicide unit.

Cleofas Byamugisha, the brother of the deceased, shared that Akankwasa had been battling mental, liver, and brucellosis zoonosis diseases leading up to his death. Byamugisha, while expressing sorrow over the loss, urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of his brother’s death.

The police reported that Akankwasa was seen lying at the top of a cliff near Mwunva Mbonigaba’s residence the evening before his death. Allegedly, he slid from the cliff and fell, resulting in instant death. The homicide unit, led by D/SP Hakim Mukama, promptly conducted a postmortem, and by Monday evening, the body was handed over to the family for a proper burial.

Akankwasa is survived by his wife and two children. The relatives have scheduled his burial for Wednesday in Kanoni Village, Maziba Sub County, Kabale District.
