MBARARA, Uganda — Police in Mbarara City have arrested at least 10 suspected drug dealers during a targeted operation in Kisenyi, as authorities intensify efforts to curb crime in the area.
According to police, the suspects were found in possession of marijuana and other illicit substances during the early morning raid.
The operation follows a surge in complaints from residents, who have raised concern over increasing cases of robbery and violent attacks linked to drug abuse in the area.
Police say the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to restore security and protect communities from criminal activities associated with drug trafficking and consumption.
“We responded to concerns from residents about insecurity in the area, and this operation is part of broader efforts to dismantle criminal networks,” a police source said.
Authorities have warned that similar operations will continue across other parts of the city as part of a wider campaign to combat drug-related crime.
Residents have welcomed the arrests, expressing hope that the operation will help reduce crime and improve safety in their neighborhoods.
Police say investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be arraigned in court once inquiries are complete.
