Police in Kisoro District have arrested 20 suspected night criminals accused of terrorizing residents through violent assaults, theft, and the use of stray dogs to threaten victims during nighttime operations across the municipality.
According to authorities, the suspects whose identities have been withheld to avoid compromising ongoing investigations, are alleged to have snatched mobile phones and assaulted residents using pangas, sticks, and knives. In some instances, they reportedly used stray dogs to intimidate their victims.
The gang is said to have been operating mainly along Rasha Street, Kivegeri Street, Kisoro – Bunagana Road, Busamba, and Kisoro–Mutorele Road.
Police said the arrests were made during night patrols launched three weeks ago as part of a broader security operation aimed at ensuring public safety ahead of the Christmas festive season.
Kisoro District Police Commander (DPC) Ben Niwamanya Kashumbusha confirmed the arrests. He revealed that 10 of the suspects have been remanded to Kisoro Government Prison, while the remaining 10 are still in police custody as investigations continue.
DPC Niwamanya also urged members of the public who may have been victims of these attacks to report to the police and provide statements to help strengthen the case through eyewitness testimony.
