RUKIGA, UGANDA – Police in Rukiga district are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 20-year-old man in Nyamabare, located in Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga District.
The victim, identified as Michael Akandinda, was found lifeless on November 28, 2023. The tragic incident took place at Gilbert’s bricklaying site, where the deceased had been employed.
According to the report filed by the area chairperson of Nyamabare Cell, Justine Ruyombya, the young man had left his home on the 25th of November to engage in bricklaying activities at the mentioned site. Unfortunately, he never returned home, and his whereabouts remained unknown until the 28th of November.
On that fateful day at 8:00 am, residents of Nyamabare Cell stumbled upon the lifeless body of Michael Akandinda in a deep bricklaying pond filled with stagnant water. The discovery prompted them to alert the local authorities, and the chairperson of Nyamabare Cell was promptly informed.
Upon receiving the information, the Muhanga Police Station registered a report of drowning, and the Deputy Criminal Investigations Officer (D/CID/O) and a team visited the scene to document the situation. The body was retrieved from the pond and subsequently taken for postmortem examination before being handed over to the grieving relatives.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the young man might have slipped and fallen into the deep pond while working alone. The body was found with mud, but no apparent physical injuries were observed. The police are still conducting inquiries to gather more details about the circumstances leading to Michael Akandinda’s tragic demise.
As the investigation unfolds, the residents of Nyamabare await answers to the lingering questions surrounding this unfortunate incident.
