Rubirizi, Uganda – Police in Rubirizi District are investigating the heartbreaking death of a 21-year-old man, Deus Kiiza, who was found hanging in his mother’s house on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023.

Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified Kiiza as a resident of Nyakatunga II cell, Mugyera Parish, Katanda Sub County.

According to Tumusiime, Kiiza left home around 9:00 AM for Katerera Town. He later returned home but then went off again, leading his sisters to believe he was going to his own house. Tragically, they soon discovered him hanging dead in the living room of his mother’s house.

Julius Katarihwa, the 48-year-old chairman of the Nyakatunga cell, revealed that Kiiza had threatened to harm his family members, especially his mother. This behavior allegedly stemmed from their attempts to prevent him from selling the family land.

Tumusiime further mentioned that Kiiza had a history of substance abuse, including drugs and alcohol, which had strained his family relationships.

A post-mortem examination is underway at Rugazi Health Center IV, and police are actively investigating the case to determine the factors leading to Kiiza’s suicide.
