LIRA:
Police in Lira-City West Division are investigating the murder of a 23-year-old man, Omara Brain. The victim’s body was found with open cut wounds on both legs on Friday morning in Te-tugo cell, Adyel ward.
A team of police officers led by the Division CID officer responded to the scene and took the body to Lira Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem.
Police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema said no arrests have been made yet, but inquiries are ongoing. He appealed to anyone with information that can help the police with their investigation to come forward.
Okema also warned against mob justice, saying it is illegal and punishable by law. He urged residents to report any suspected crimes to the police instead of taking the law into their own hands.
The murder of Omara Brain is the latest in a series of mob justice incidents in Lira City. In recent months, there have been several cases of people being killed by mobs after being accused of theft or other crimes.
Police have urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to instead report any suspected crimes to the police. They say that mob justice is not only illegal, but it also leads to innocent people being killed.
