In a horrifying and sickening incident that has shocked the Rubirizi District community, a 32-year-old man has been apprehended by the police for the heinous crime of sexually abusing his own 4-year-old daughter. This disturbing revelation came to light on September 19, 2023, when an alert resident, Ronia Kyarimpa, reported the gruesome act to local authorities.
The accused, identified as a resident of the impoverished Mugogo II Village in Ryeru Sub County, Rubirizi District, is a peasant by occupation. The utter depravity of his actions has left the community in a state of disbelief and outrage.
Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the greater Bushenyi police, confirmed the arrest, stating, “We received information from area resident Ronia Kyarimpa alleging that the suspect was on September 19 found defiling his biological daughter.” The authorities had to act swiftly to apprehend this despicable criminal.
Medical tests conducted by the village health team officer, Pamela Musimenta, revealed the horrifying extent of the abuse. Musimenta reported that the victim had been subjected to repeated sexual assaults. “Tests were done at Rugazi Health Center IV confirming that she had been defiled many times. It is very unfortunate that fathers can no longer be trusted with their own daughters,” she lamented, reflecting the collective shock and sorrow of the community.
Adding to the tragedy, it has come to light that the suspect had separated from the victim’s mother approximately three years ago. Earlier this year, the mother entrusted the care of her two children, including the victim and her 2-year-old brother, to their father. Little did she know the horrifying fate that awaited her innocent daughter.
This appalling incident serves as a stark reminder of the distressing reality faced by far too many vulnerable children. The statistics are equally distressing. According to the police annual crime report of 2022, there were a total of 3,620 reported cases of aggravated defilement by the end of 2022. While this represented a 4.3 percent decrease from the previous year, the fact that such heinous crimes persist in society is deeply troubling.
