The Uganda Police Force, in collaboration with the Joint Task Team consisting of police, UPDF, CMI, UWA, and ISO, has apprehended a 32 year old businesswoman named Karungi Zainabu from Railway cell in Kasese Municipality.

She stands accused of orchestrating her own kidnapping in an attempt to extort money from her relatives and providing false information to law enforcement authorities. The suspect’s actions involved fabricating a scenario of abduction on February 8, 2024, during which she allegedly claimed to her mother that she and another female victim had been apprehended by eight armed men near Kikorongo within the Queen Elizabeth National Park. However, investigations revealed that this account was false, and there was no actual abduction.

Furthermore, Karungi Zainabu purportedly asserted that the armed men were demanding a ransom for her release. This misinformation was deemed inappropriate, as it falsely implicated the reputation of the Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Utilizing advanced surveillance techniques, the task team successfully traced Karungi Zainabu to her hiding place in a room located at Margherita Street in Kasese Municipality, where she was subsequently arrested. She is scheduled to appear in court today to face charges of providing false information to the police and orchestrating her own kidnapping.
