Lira, Uganda – The police management in Lira City West Division, in collaboration with local leaders and community members, has arrested 35 suspected criminals over the course of two days following intelligence-led operations.

The intelligence-led operation was conducted in the areas of Ober Ward, Teso Bar, and Ober Kampala within Lira City West Division in Lira City.

According to North Kyoga Police PRO, SP Jimmy Okema Patrick, on September 26th, 2023, a team of police officers led by the DPC responded to the LC1 office in Ober Ward at around 14:00 hours, where they found seven suspects who had been apprehended by local community members on allegations of printing fake dollars. However, they were immediately taken to the police cells at Ojwina Police Station.

Later, the operations continued, resulting in the arrest of 18 more suspects. During their interrogation, exhibits such as opium, sharp objects including pangas and knives, master keys, and breaking implements were recovered from them.

Due to the significant number of arrests and pressure against the suspected criminals, the police received information about a group of criminals led by the notorious criminal known as Amone Moses and his associates. They allegedly attacked the LC1 executive members in Ober Kampala. The police responded and found that they had fled to the office of the City Internal Security Office (CISO).

“We pursued them and managed to arrest 10 of them, all of whom were taken into detention at Lira City CPS. We have already commenced recording their statements for compilation before the files are submitted to the RCSA for review and legal advice,” said Okema in the statement issued.

The police pledged to continue conducting intelligence-led operations and, above all, appealed to members of the public to provide information that could lead to the arrest of these suspected criminals.
