Police have arrested a man suspected of hacking to death a 4-year-old boy in Takajjunge village, Mukono district.

The suspect, identified as Dauda Jjumba, allegedly killed a child named Adam Matovu and dumped his body in a pit latrine.

A neighbor recounted that the incident occurred last week when a stranger was observed scaling a perimeter wall. After a pursuit, he discarded a bag containing a blood-stained knife. Shortly afterward, a child from a nearby village was reported missing, and later discovered deceased in a pit latrine.

“We attempted to apprehend the stranger, but he managed to escape. Our suspicions heightened upon discovering a knife with fresh blood. Subsequently, we learned of a child having been killed in one of our neighboring homes. We promptly alerted the police to assist in locating the suspected perpetrator,” neighbor Ronald Ssenkima said.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, stated that sniffer dogs aided in tracking and apprehending Dauda Jjumba. However, he clarified that it has not been conclusively established whether Jjumba is indeed the perpetrator of the murder of young Adam Matovu.

“We have forwarded the exhibits, including the bag, the knife, and a set of bed sheets, to our forensic team for DNA analysis. Once we receive the results, we will be able to determine whether the suspect in custody was involved in the murder,” ASP Owoyesigyire explained.

Locals, however, remain bewildered by the motive behind the killing of Matovu.
