Napak, Uganda – The police in the Mt. Moroto region have launched a manhunt for a father who allegedly set fire to his three children while they were sleeping in their house, reportedly over a misunderstanding with his wife regarding feeding.
The incident took place at 11 pm on Tuesday in Lokeru Village, Lolet Parish, Lorengecora SC, Napak District.
Mr. Michael Longole, the Mt. Moroto regional police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate.
He identified the fire victims who were burnt to ashes: Nadoli Janet, aged 10; Lokong Emmanuel, aged 3; and Nakodio Joan, 1 year and 3 months old.
According to Mr. Longole, the children were allegedly locked in the hut by their father, Otyang Michael, who is currently at large, and set on fire due to a feeding disagreement with his wife.
He said the police are looking for Otyang to face charges of murder and arson.
“We urge anyone with information to assist in the investigation and apprehension of the suspect,” Longole appealed.
He cautioned the public to always restrain their anger, especially toward children, saying the children are innocent in their parents’ disagreements.
