A 25 year old man finds himself in custody at Apac Central Police Station (CPS) for the alleged murder of his wife’s suspected lover. The incident unfolded on January 1, 2024, when the suspect, residing in Aminteng East Cell, Aminteng Ward, Agulu Division, Apac Municipality, reportedly assaulted the victim, identified only as Ambrose, under the belief that he was romantically involved with the suspect’s recently eloped wife.
The assault left Ambrose in critical condition, prompting his immediate transfer to Apac Hospital for urgent medical attention. Tragically, despite efforts to save him, Ambrose succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, as confirmed by authorities.
According to police reports, Ambrose, a resident of Inomo Sub-county in Kwania District and in his 20s, had visited Apac Town to see his lover, who had informed him that she was residing at her relative’s home.
Confirming the incident, Apac District Police Commander (DPC) Rogers Kapere stated that investigations into the matter are already underway. He recounted dispatching a team to rescue the severely beaten victim upon receiving a distress call. Despite their efforts to transport Ambrose to the hospital, he unfortunately did not survive.
The incident adds to the grim statistics of domestic violence related murders. The 2022 annual police crime report revealed a concerning figure of 301 reported cases of murder resulting from domestic violence, reflecting a 19.9% decrease compared to the 376 cases reported in 2021. Out of the total cases recorded by the police, only 127 were taken to court.
