Kampala, Uganda — Kampala Metropolitan Police have launched investigations into the suspicious death of 25-year-old Caroline Nalubwama, who reportedly died following a gas explosion at the home of former socialite and businessman Bryan White in Kyamula, Makindye Division.

Police said the incident occurred on October 27, 2025, at Bryan White’s residence and that the matter is being treated as a suspicious death. Nalubwama was rushed to Kiruddu Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Earlier reports suggested that Bryan White had been arrested, but police clarified that he is not in custody. Instead, he is being treated as a suspect and is currently assisting with investigations while receiving medical attention for injuries he sustained during the incident.

“The territorial police at Katwe are actively investigating the circumstances under which one Nalubwama Caroline, aged 25, allegedly sustained serious injuries resulting in her death,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, in a statement.

Owoyesigyire said a team of detectives visited and cordoned off the scene, recovered relevant exhibits, and documented the findings to aid in the ongoing investigation. The deceased’s body has been taken to City Mortuary, Mulago, for a post-mortem examination.

He added that investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing additional witnesses to establish the actual sequence of events.

According to Spy Reports, which first broke the story, the incident is believed to have been caused by a gas explosion that severely burned Nalubwama and partially damaged property inside the house. The deceased’s father, Tom Mutyaba, 52, reported the matter to Katwe Police Station under case reference DEF 73/2025, prompting the deployment of detectives, forensic experts, and fire officers.

Police sources quoted by the publication said investigators recovered burnt clothes and damaged curtains, which have been taken for forensic analysis.

Bryan White, born Brian Kirumira, was one of Kampala’s most flamboyant figures between 2017 and 2019, known for his extravagant lifestyle and claims of empowering youth through the Bryan White Foundation. His high-profile associations with political figures drew both admiration and controversy. However, his reputation was later tarnished by multiple allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse.

In 2020, several young women, including Vivian Mutanda and Stella Nandawula, publicly accused Bryan White of sexual harassment, assault, and forced abortions. Mutanda claimed the foundation operated like a brothel where girls were given alcohol and coerced into sex. She described Bryan White as “a very evil man” who used his influence to exploit young women.

Although one of the accusers later recanted, Mutanda maintained her claims, alleging that Bryan White’s political connections allowed him to evade justice.

Following the public backlash, Bryan White granted an interview to journalist Jacobs Odongo Seaman, then with Daily Monitor, at his Buziga residence. Appearing frail and on oxygen, he claimed to be suffering from a serious illness and accused individuals close to President Yoweri Museveni of sabotaging his youth programs out of jealousy.

Despite parliamentary calls for his prosecution and several public scandals, Bryan White largely escaped legal consequences and retreated from the public eye until now.

The latest incident has thrust Bryan White back into the national spotlight after years of relative silence. Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion and the circumstances surrounding Caroline Nalubwama’s death.

“Our team is working to establish the full truth,” ASP Owoyesigyire said. “We call for calm as investigations continue.”
