Police in Buhweju District have launched a comprehensive investigation into the brutal murder of a local businessman, Abel Nkirirehi, 35. The incident occurred in Ryakafuni Village, Katinda Parish, Nyakishana sub-county, Buhweju District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the incident, providing details of the tragic event. Nkirirehi, a resident of Ryakafuni Village, was reportedly attacked on November 29, 2023, at approximately 5:00 PM as he returned home from Katinda trading center.
According to Tumusiime, Nkirirehi had left his residence to photocopy documents for his wife, Kemigisha Angela, a teacher. He had completed his errand and was making his way back home when he was accosted by unknown assailants.
Benson Nkabakorera, a 30-year-old resident, stated that he found Nkirirehi lying on the roadside with severe injuries to his right thigh. Despite being rushed to a clinic in Katinda trading center, Nkirirehi succumbed to his injuries.
Tumusiime revealed that the police have identified a suspect, Nicholas Beinomugisha, a 35-year-old builder and resident of the same area. Beinomugisha’s motive for the attack remains unclear at this time.
Nkirirehi’s body has been transported to Nsiika Health Center IV for postmortem examination. The police investigation is ongoing, with officers working to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the murder.
