Buhweju District, Uganda – Police in Buhweju District have apprehended a 42-year-old woman, Nshemereirwe Shallon, following the alleged murder of her husband, Beinomugisha Patrick. The incident reportedly stemmed from a domestic dispute in Kaniga Cell, Kyayera Parish, Rwengwe Sub-county. The date of the incident was not immediately disclosed.
According to Tumusiime Masho, the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Greater Bushenyi region, preliminary investigations reveal that a violent altercation erupted between the couple around 9:00 PM. During the fight, Nshemereirwe allegedly struck Beinomugisha on the head with a hoe (ekihosho), resulting in his immediate death.
Police report that Nshemereirwe then concealed her husband’s body by wrapping it in bedsheets and burying it in a pit she dug inside their bedroom.
Nshemereirwe has reportedly confessed to the crime, stating that a long history of domestic violence within their marriage motivated her actions.
As of press time, the deceased’s body had not yet been exhumed to allow for a postmortem examination.
Local leaders, including Mr. Mukama Frank, the Rwengwe sub-county chairperson and head of the sub-county security committee, have strongly condemned the alleged act. They urged community members to report instances of domestic violence to local authorities or the police promptly to prevent such tragic escalations.
The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the case and are awaiting the exhumation and postmortem examination results to inform further legal proceedings.
