In recent events, several domestic incidents have led to unfortunate loss of lives, prompting the Uganda Police Force to issue a statement. In Rwizi Region and Kiruhura, a husband was fatally stabbed by his 19-year-old wife, who then took her own life. The incident, which occurred on September 28, 2023, was allegedly triggered by issues of infidelity and child neglect.
In Greater Bushenyi and Buhweju, a man was arrested for the alleged murder of his 68-year-old mother by hacking on the same day in Ekinoni village, Rugongo parish. The victim sustained serious head injuries.
In another case, the police in Katonga and Kanoni Gomba arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly beating his wife to death on September 25, 2023, in their garden. The victim initially fell unconscious and later passed away.
Additionally, in Busoga North and Buyende, a man was taken into custody for the alleged murder of his one-and-a-half-year-old stepson. The incident unfolded when the suspect assaulted his wife and her child on September 29, 2023, resulting in the child’s tragic demise.
The Uganda Police Force strongly condemns such domestic violence incidents and urges spouses and parents to foster respect and care within their households, avoiding resorting to violence. Those facing abusive relationships are encouraged to seek assistance from the Child and Family Protection Unit.
