Henry Kasawo, a 25-year-old man from Kakola cell in Ivukula town council, Namutumba district, has been arrested by Busoga East police on suspicion of being involved in the death of his girlfriend, Ruth Ahereza. The incident is believed to have happened on October 6th, 2023, and Kasawo had been in hiding since.

Kasawo and Ahereza had been living together since January 2023, but their relationship had many problems. Ahereza left Kasawo’s house in August 2023 because of these issues.

According to a friend of Ahereza, she had been staying with her for the past month. Kasawo had been trying to convince her to come back to his house, but she didn’t want to because of her difficult living conditions. On October 5th, 2023, Kasawo said he had found a job for Ahereza in Iganga district and convinced her to go with him for the job offer.

However, on the evening of October 6th, Ahereza’s lifeless body was discovered in Kasawo’s bedroom, which raised suspicion about his involvement. He didn’t report the incident to the authorities. Diana Nandawula, the Busoga East police spokesperson, confirmed Kasawo’s arrest and said that there is evidence linking him to Ahereza’s death.

An autopsy report showed signs of strangulation and bruises on Ahereza’s neck. The police are still investigating the case, and they are reexamining the crime scene and collecting statements from residents to speed up the prosecution process.
