Two murders occurred on October 9, 2024, in Alebtong District, sending shockwaves through the community.
According to North Kyoga Region Police PRO SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the incident took place at Amonomito cell, Bediworo ward, Apala Town Council. The report was filed by Ogwal Norman Bilal, a 53-year-old social worker and resident of the area.
Omaa Jimmy, 32, followed his 82-year-old grandmother Acio Jane to her home and forced his way in. He attacked her, inflicting severe head injuries that led to her death. Omaa Jimmy then fled the scene.
Community members pursued Omaa Jimmy and apprehended him. However, he was brutally beaten and stoned to death by the mob.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Omaa Jimmy was under the influence of opium and alcohol at the time of the murders. He had a history of drug abuse.
The scene of the crime was examined by homicide and SOCO teams from Alebtong District. Statements were recorded from witnesses, including the victim’s father, Mr. Ogomo Walter, who described Omaa Jimmy as a troublemaker due to his drug addiction.
Evidence from the crime scene was collected and documented. Post-mortem examinations were conducted on both bodies, and the remains were handed over to relatives for burial.
As of press time, no arrests have been made in connection with the mob murder. However, efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
Police condemned the tragic incident and urged young people to avoid drug abuse and engage in productive activities. SP Jimmy Patrick Okema highlighted government programs like Emyoga, youth livelihood, PDM, and Grow to support food security, development, and poverty reduction in the region.
