Tip-Off Leads to Arrest of Two Men in ID Card, Money Theft Case

Police in Kampala have arrested two suspects for breaking into a company office and stealing 104 national identity cards and four million shillings.

The suspects are Kwikiriza Evans, 22, a resident of Katuga East, Mitanda parish, Kiwunga subcounty, Ntugamo district, and Rubogo Sam, a former worker at the same company.

It is alleged that on September 3, 2023, at around 7:30pm, Kwikiriza, who was a loans officer at T.M.K Loans Service in Kanaba-Ndejje Busabala road, broke into the company office and stole the identity cards and money.

The theft was planned by Kwikiriza and Rubogo. They had been working together at the company for several months and had knowledge of the security measures in place.

The suspects were arrested after a tip-off from a member of the public. The flying squad of the Kampala Metropolitan Police East tracked down the suspects to Kanungu-Kihihi, where they were arrested with the exhibits in their travel bag.

The two suspects are currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station, where they are being held on charges of theft and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The police are appealing to anyone who may have information about the theft to come forward.
