Driver on the Run After Causing Serious Accident in Lira City

The North Kyoga Region Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, has reported a serious accident in Lira City West that caused injuries to several people.

According to SP Okema, the territorial police in Lira City West Division are investigating an accident that occurred on July 25, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM (18:30 hours) near Jinja Camp on Juba Road.




It is alleged that a gray motor vehicle with registration number UBL 203R, driven by Timo Calvin, collided with an unidentified motorcycle. Both the vehicle and the motorcycle were traveling in the same direction. Upon reaching Jinja Camp along Juba Road, the motor vehicle struck the motorcycle rider, identified as Ogwal, from behind.




The driver continued at high speed, hitting a pedal cyclist and then a pedestrian identified as Odora before abandoning the car on Kwania Road and fleeing into a nearby house. He was later rescued by police from a mob that had gathered.




Police traffic personnel visited the scene, and Good Samaritans transported the injured victims to Charies Clinic for treatment. SP Okema added that the motor vehicle has been towed to Lira City West Police Station for inspection, and efforts are ongoing to locate the missing motorcycle.
