Police in Mitooma District have apprehended four individuals on suspicion of murdering a businessman.

The incident occurred on February 11th, 2024, in Rukondo village, Igambiro Parish, Katenga Sub County, Mitooma District. Marcial Tumusiim, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi police, confirmed the occurrence and identified the four suspects as Didas Tusiime (38), Xavier Ayebazibwe (38), Peter Mucunguzi (20), and Agatha Akampa (28), all residents of Rukondo village, Igambiro Parish, Katenga Sub County, Mitooma District.

Reportedly, on February 12th, 2024, around 12:00 PM, Anselm Ainebyoona filed a murder case at Katenga police post, alleging that his brother, Godfrey Atuhaire, had been strangled to death.

Preliminary investigations suggested that Didas Tusiime was romantically involved with the deceased’s wife, Agatha Akampa. Allegedly, the two conspired to eliminate Atuhaire so that Tusiime could marry her as a widow. On a particular night, the suspects purportedly strangled the deceased in his bedroom and staged it as a hanging using a bedsheet to conceal the crime.

However, one local resident reportedly witnessed Tusiime entering the deceased’s house around 3:00 AM. The autopsy revealed that the deceased suffered internal head injuries and strangulation, resulting in damage to the windpipe.

Tumusiime mentioned that the body was transported to Kitagata Hospital mortuary in Sheema District for postmortem examination, while investigations are ongoing.
