The district production officer for Obongi District Local Government, Johnson Opigo, has been arrested by police on suspicion of vandalism and malicious damage to a government tractor. The tractor, registration number LG 0015/169, was found abandoned in a compound of a grass thatched house in Obongi Town Council.

Opigo was arrested on Wednesday evening during an operation led by police and the Resident District Commissioner’s (RDC) office. The operation was commanded by the RDC, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, Deputy RDC Denis Jawoko, and Obongi District Police Commander (DPC) SP Nkurunziza Graciano.

A file has been opened under reference SD 13/25/08/2023.

The arrest follows a tip-off from a whistleblower who called the RDC during the weekly government hour program talk show on the Obongi-based radio station.

The driver of the tractor, Obulejo Patrick, has also been rearrested after it was discovered that he had not yet recorded a statement, even though he was arrested two weeks ago.

RDC Hashaka has ordered that the tractor be parked at the Obongi Central Police Station by 9:00 AM on Thursday.

As of press time on Thursday morning, both the production officer and the driver were still in custody.
