Pastor Aloysius Bugingo of the House of Prayer Ministry, who recently survived an attempted assassination that claimed the life of his bodyguard Richard Muhumuza, has spoken out about the incident. In a brief recorded video played on Salt Media TV, Bugingo expressed gratitude for the prayers and reassured his congregation of his safety, emphasizing that he is alive by the grace of God.
Bugingo conveyed his thanks to those who prayed for him and requested continued prayers, mentioning that while his bodyguard Muhumuza lost his life in the attack, Bugingo was able to receive treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital. He provided an update on his condition, stating that doctors had examined him and assured the public that he is not in a worrying state.
The Police are actively investigating the incident, which occurred around 9:00 pm on January 2nd, as Bugingo and Muhumuza were returning home. Unidentified assailants opened fire on Bugingo’s vehicle along Namungoona, Zone 2, Kasubi Rubaga Division Kampala, before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. Despite injuries sustained during the attack, Bugingo managed to reach Mulago Hospital, while Muhumuza tragically succumbed to the assault.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, and a close friend to Bugingo, has called for expedited investigations into the attempted murder. He urged law enforcement agencies to swiftly identify and bring the criminals responsible to justice, posing questions about the identity of the assailants, including whether they are linked to the Allied Democratic Force (ADF) or another shadowy group.
The incident has prompted a comprehensive probe by the authorities.
