Drowning and Electrocution Result in Loss of Lives Across Kampala City

On October 16, a series of tragic events occurred in different areas, resulting in the loss of lives. Multiple police stations responded promptly to these incidents, launching investigations to understand these unfortunate occurrences.

In Kirombe, Butabiika, a tragic accident took the life of 7-year-old John Baptist Amanya, a pupil at St. James Biina Primary School and the son of John Mary Sevimbi. The young boy accidentally fell into a swiftly flowing water channel during heavy rainfall, leading to his unfortunate drowning. His body was later found in Kirombe zone B, Butabiika. Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) and the homicide team arrived at the scene, and Amanya’s body was taken to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.




At Ntinda Police Barracks, retired Assistant Inspector of Police Christopher Olanya lost his life while trying to rescue his daughter and son during an electrical malfunction. Tragically, his barefoot condition at the time made him vulnerable to a fatal electric shock. Olanya’s body was taken to City Mortuary Mulago for a post-mortem examination, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

In Nansana, a heartbreaking incident occurred on Monday, where a child named Favour Mukisa lost her life. Her mother, Halima Nabukenya, reported that Mukisa went to play with other children after the rain but went missing. A search revealed that she had headed towards a water channel and had tragically drowned. Nansana Police initiated an investigation, examined the scene at Katooke A zone, collected statements, and transported the child’s body to the city mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy public relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, expressed that these incidents have left the affected families in deep sorrow, and their thoughts and sympathies are with them during this incredibly challenging time.
