Mulago National Referral Hospital recorded over 100 cases of accidents and assaults during the recent festive season, with a total of 138 reported incidents.

Dr. Racheal Tayona, a medical officer at Mulago’s Accident and Emergency ward, disclosed that out of the 138 cases, 98 were related to road traffic accidents, while 40 were assault cases. The injuries commonly treated included head injuries, blunt chest trauma, blunt abdominal trauma, and fractures.

Most of these accidents, primarily attributed to Boda Boda incidents, occurred in various parts of the country. Despite the concerning numbers, Tayona mentioned that the cases showed a reduction compared to the previous year.

In a statement to local press on Tuesday, Moses Mwanje Birungi, the Public Relations Officer of the Federation of Uganda Taxi Operators, lauded taxi drivers and conductors for their adherence to National Traffic Regulations. This compliance contributed significantly to the notable reduction in fatal accidents across the country during the festive season.
