Police Investigate Death Threats Against Hospital Director

In a concerning turn of events, police in Kayunga District, Uganda, have summoned two former medical staff from Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital for making threats to kill the hospital director, Dr. Robert Ssentogo. The motives behind these threats remain undisclosed as authorities delve into the matter.

The District Police Commander, Ms. Rosette Sikahwa, disclosed that the suspects, whose identities have been withheld to safeguard the investigation’s integrity, allegedly issued threats against Dr. Ssentogo, contending that he was unfit for his directorial position.

Ms. Sikahwa further clarified, “The investigation is actively ongoing, and upon its conclusion, the case file will be forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for examination and appropriate legal counsel.”

Both of the implicated individuals had previously been employed at Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital but left their positions last year to join the Kayunga District Local Government.

Dr. Ssentogo assumed his role as the hospital director two years ago after the facility’s elevation to regional referral status. During his tenure, allegations emerged from some hospital staff members, asserting that he engaged in harassment and recommended them for transfers to remote health facilities. Moreover, they accused him of neglecting to endorse their promotions, leading to the resignation of several long-serving staff members.

In response to these allegations, Dr. Ssentogo refuted any involvement in staff recruitment and transfer decisions, distancing himself from these administrative matters.

When contacted, the suspects vehemently denied the claims against them. They expressed surprise at the allegations, emphasizing that they had voluntarily resigned from the hospital and bore no ill will toward the director.

Dr. Ssentogo, choosing not to comment on the situation, directed inquiries to the police, who are actively investigating the alleged threats against him.
