Gunmen in UPDF Uniform Rob Kyenjojo Shop, Stealing 25 Million Shillings

Unidentified gunmen, dressed in UPDF (Uganda People’s Defense Forces) uniforms, stole 25 million shillings from a shop located along Katooke-Hoima Road in Kyenjojo District, western Uganda. The robbery took place on October 29, 2023, at around 9:00 PM. The shop owner, John Rwatooro, aged 35, was the victim of this theft.

The robbery occurred at Katooke Trading Center, and it was captured on CCTV footage, which is now being used by the police in their investigation. According to the video evidence, three criminals, all wearing UPDF uniforms and armed with an AK-47 SMG rifle, entered John Rwatooro’s shop and made away with the substantial sum of money. Rwatooro is a resident of Katooke Town Council, which is situated in the same district.

Police Response and Investigation

Vicent Twesige, the spokesperson for Rwenzori West Police, provided some details on the incident. He stated that “upon entering the shop, the gunmen overpowered the shop owner and stole the money.” Fortunately, John Rwatooro was unharmed during the robbery.

Following the incident, John Rwatooro promptly reported the robbery to Kyenjojo Police Station at approximately 09:32 AM the next day, as documented by the police.

The law enforcement authorities have since initiated an investigation and opened an inquiry file. The case has been assigned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) located in Katooke. At this stage, the suspects involved in the robbery remain at large, and there have been no arrests made in connection with the case, as confirmed by Vicent Twesige in a brief statement to journalists.
