In Mbarara city, a businessman has been taken into custody by the police for allegedly sexually assaulting a 20-year-old man. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Nelson Tumushabe, works as a vendor in Mbarara’s central market and resides in the lower cell of Nyamityobora ward in Mbarara city.
According to reports, the alleged incident occurred on the night of October 9, 2023. The victim, whose identity remains anonymous, reported the matter to the Mbarara central police station on the following Tuesday, leading to Tumushabe’s arrest. The victim disclosed that he had met Tumushabe on Independence Day, and Tumushabe had offered to help him find a job. The suspect then invited the victim to stay at his rented house, where the sexual assault allegedly took place.
Muhammad Mugerwa, the landlord of the suspect’s rental property, strongly condemned the act and revealed that the suspect had been living in his rentals for three months.
SP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson, emphasized the seriousness with which the police treat cases of sodomy and human trafficking. He assured that they are making every effort to ensure justice is served. The victim is currently receiving medical and counseling support from organizations dedicated to helping survivors of sexual violence.
A search conducted by a team of police detectives at the suspect’s rental house yielded several exhibits, including condoms and lubricants.
