Police in Kamuli district strongly denounce the brutal killing of a man by a mob who suspected him of stealing a motorcycle.
In a horrifying incident, the mob initially severed the man’s private parts and set them on fire, as reported by the police.
The tragic incident occurred in Busanda village, Bugulumbya sub-county, Kamuli, according to Michael Kasadha, the spokesperson for Busoga North Police.
The victim was identified only as Stephen, aged 25.
According to the police, the residents of the village had learned that a motorcycle belonging to one of their neighbors, who remains unidentified, had been stolen on Thursday night.
Filled with anger and frustration, the villagers initiated a search for the thief the following morning (Friday).
During their search operation, they reportedly encountered Stephen on the road.
“Upon questioning his destination, [Stephen] informed the group that he was traveling from Kasambira in Kamuli district to Luzinga in Buwenge Jinja district but had lost his way,” Kasadha recounted.
Suddenly, believing Stephen to be the thief they had been hunting for, the group turned violent.
“They mutilated him and later stoned him to death,” added Kasadha, who strongly condemned the act of mob justice.
The lifeless body of the deceased was recovered and transported to the Kamuli district hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police have initiated an investigation into this gruesome incident of mob violence.
