On Wednesday morning, six children tragically lost their lives in a fire in the village of Namulanda B, Kisubi, located in Wakiso district. The incident occurred around 1 a.m., leaving the local community in shock and mourning.

Police in Entebbe are investigating the fire, which broke out at the home of Bakita Ayang, a South Sudanese national. The police were alerted to the fire by a member of the community who called for help.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson, reported that officers from Kisubi Police Station quickly responded to the scene. They were accompanied by firefighters from the Entebbe Police Division, who worked to extinguish the flames. Despite the joint efforts of community members and emergency responders, they were unable to save the six children, who were aged between two and sixteen.

Owoyesigyire emphasized the need for the public to remain vigilant and take precautions to prevent similar tragedies. He stated that the bodies of the young victims have been recovered and transported to the city mortuary for autopsy.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have started from an electric kettle left unattended in the sitting room, which was plugged into a socket. Owoyesigyire noted that the scene has been cordoned off as authorities continue their inquiries to determine the exact cause of the fire.
