The First Son and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is calling for swift investigations into the recent attack on Pastor Aloysious Bugingo. The incident occurred in Namungoona on Tuesday night, resulting in the tragic death of Bugingo’s bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza.
Gen. Muhoozi, in a statement on his X-platform, expressed relief that Pastor Bugingo survived the attempt on his life with only slight wounds to his left shoulder. He emphasized the need for law enforcement agencies to promptly identify and bring the attackers to justice.
“This marks the second attack on our supporters within the last eight months, with no perpetrators held accountable yet. The unresolved case of the murder of Isma Olaxess in May 2023 adds to our concerns,” Gen. Muhoozi stated.
Isma Olaxes, a prominent Ugandan blogger, was shot dead in Kyanja, and no suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. Gen. Muhoozi highlighted the urgency of addressing these unresolved cases and ensuring the safety of the public.
The recent attack on Bugingo follows a pattern of violence against public figures, including the assassination of Joan Kagezi in 2015, Andrew Felix Kaweesi in 2017, Ibrahim Abiriga in 2018, and Muhammad Kirumira in the same year. The perpetrators in some of these cases have faced legal consequences, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive investigations.
