Police in Rukungiri District are actively searching for a man accused of intentionally using his car to run over and kill a hotel manager, alleging that the victim was involved with his wife. Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, identified the victim as 55-year-old Justus Muhwezi, the manager of Kings Hotel in Rukungiri.
Maate provided details of the incident, explaining that two months ago, allegations arose of an affair between Muhwezi and Patience Nabimanya, an accountant at the same hotel and the wife of the suspect, William Sebikaru. On Sunday, December 17, 2023, Sebikaru reportedly threatened Nabimanya, accusing her of attempting to break his marriage.
The tragic event unfolded on Monday, December 18, 2023, around 11:30 am, as Muhwezi was commuting to work on a motorcycle. Sebikaru, driving a Toyota Harrier (registration number UBH 562 C), intentionally collided with them from behind. Muhwezi was critically injured and rushed to Nyakibale Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Sebikaru abandoned the vehicle in Buyanja and fled the scene. The police were alerted, and a murder case was registered at Rukungiri Central Police Station. The crime scene was thoroughly examined, with statements from eyewitnesses recorded. The impounded vehicle and motorcycle were taken to Central Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation. The police are actively pursuing the suspect, and inquiries are underway.
