Corporal Richard Muhumuza, a Special Forces Command (SFC) soldier, lost his life while serving as a bodyguard to Pastor Aloysius Bugingo, head of the House of Prayer Ministries International in Kampala. The late Corporal Muhumuza, who had been in the Ugandan army for ten years, joined the SFC, a unit responsible for guarding high-profile individuals, including the President and VIPs.

Colleagues describe Muhumuza as a dedicated soldier in his late 30s, originally from Sembabule District. His untimely death occurred during an attack on Pastor Bugingo’s vehicle at Bwalakata Junction on National Housing Road in Namungoona, Rubaga Division, Kampala.

Major Jimmy Omara, the SFC spokesperson, expressed condolences, revealing that the deployment of security personnel is based on threat analysis. The decision to assign protection to individuals is made at higher levels within the military command structure.

The attack, which took place on January 2 around 9 pm, involved unidentified assailants opening fire on Pastor Bugingo’s vehicle. Despite sustaining injuries, Pastor Bugingo managed to transport the vehicle to Mulago Hospital. Regrettably, Corporal Muhumuza succumbed to the assault and was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Pastor Bugingo had been aware of threats against his life, as indicated in a video where he spoke about attempts to harm him. Major Omara assured that investigations into the incident are underway, and the army will handle the burial preparations once the postmortem is completed.
