Arrests Made in Kagadi Following Murders of Two Men
Two women have been arrested in Kagadi on allegations of murdering a man, adding to recent violent incidents in the district.
Grace Kyomuhendo and Olive Kembabazi, both residents of Rwabaranga village in Rwabaranga parish, Mpeefu sub-county, Kagadi district, were apprehended by local police. The victim, Baker Bwambale, 25, also a resident of the area, reportedly succumbed to injuries inflicted during a quarrel at a local bar in Rwabaranga trading center on June 18. Witnesses claim the altercation escalated into a physical confrontation where the suspects allegedly beat Bwambale unconscious with a blunt object. Samuel Baluku, a local resident, recounted how they rushed Bwambale to Kagadi General Hospital for urgent medical attention, but he tragically passed away.
According to Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, the suspects fled the scene following the incident. They were subsequently apprehended on Monday and are currently detained at Kagadi Central Police Station, facing charges of murder.
In a separate incident within Kagadi district, a 45-year-old man named Yakobo Byeitaka, a resident of Karagi village in Kitema parish, Kyenzige sub-county, was found strangled to death on June 22. Byeitaka had reportedly been approached by his brothers on June 21 to mediate a land dispute but did not return home. Concerned relatives, including Rosemary Fatuma, raised alarms after he failed to return, prompting a police search.
Tragically, on June 22, Byeitaka’s lifeless body was discovered in a nearby bush in Karagi village. His body bore visible bruises around the neck, suggesting he had been strangled before being abandoned in the bush.
