Kanungu Farmer Murdered in Cold Blood

Kanungu district police are on the lookout for an unknown assailant who assaulted and killed Agaba Ivan, a 52-year-old peasant farmer from Katwa village, Bushura parish, Kirima sub-county.

The incident occurred on November 19, 2023, around 2:00 am, approximately 20 meters from Agaba’s home. Despite the victim’s attempt to raise an alarm, the assailant escaped before Agaba’s biological sister, Oribariho Eudia, could intervene.

Agaba was initially treated at Kanungu Health Centre IV before being transferred to Kabale regional referral hospital due to the severity of his injuries. However, he succumbed to his injuries on November 25, 2023, while being transported to Mbarara regional referral hospital. His body was transported back to his residence for burial.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, stated that a team of detectives, led by D/SP David Dauna, Tumusabe Francis (D/SOCO Kanungu), and homicide detectives, has been investigating the crime scene. A postmortem was conducted, and the body was handed over to relatives for a proper burial.

The assailant remains at large, and the case is registered at Kanungu District Police Station under the reference number Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) 762/2023.

Police urge anyone with information about the assailant’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in the investigation.
