Kanungu Teacher Arrested for Alleged Defilement of 13-Year-Old Girl

Kanungu, Uganda — Police in Kanungu District have arrested a secondary school teacher, Brian Akampurira, aged 30, on allegations of aggravated defilement involving a 13-year-old girl.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, the incident occurred on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in Kihihi Town Council, leaving the local community in shock.

Akampurira, a resident of Ndeba Cell in Kihihi, is alleged to have encountered the girl near Bright Future Primary School at around 10:00 AM while she was on her way to church prayers. Police reports indicate that the suspect used coercion to lure the victim into a nearby eucalyptus forest, where the assault allegedly took place.

Although the girl attempted to raise an alarm, the isolated location prevented anyone from coming to her aid. She was also reportedly threatened by the suspect to discourage her from reporting the incident.

The case came to light when the girl courageously sought help from a Good Samaritan on her way home. The concerned citizen escorted her to Kihihi Police Station, where she reported the crime.

In a surprising twist, the suspect reportedly arrived at the police station shortly after the victim.

“The victim was at the station recording her statement when she immediately identified the suspect,” said ASP Maate. He confirmed that Akampurira was promptly arrested and has since been charged with aggravated defilement.

Police say investigations are ongoing. Once concluded, the suspect will be presented before the courts of law to face charges.
