Police in Kasangati have arrested one suspect and are hunting for another in connection with a series of motor vehicle thefts in the Kampala Metropolitan area.
The arrested suspect, identified as Joshua Kaganga, a 30-year-old mechanic from Mpelerwe, was apprehended during a police operation in Wampewo Village, Kasangati Town Council, on December 10, 2024.
Police are also searching for Kaganga’s boss, Martin Byekwaso, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the theft ring.
During the raid on Byekwaso’s car garage, police recovered six stolen vehicles and numerous number plates. The recovered vehicles include:
- UBH 145F Toyota Wish (grey)
- UAV 370G Toyota Noah (green)
- UAL 630A Mark II (white)
- UAX 793E Toyota Noah (grey)
- A numberless Toyota “Kibina” (white)
- A numberless Toyota Fielder (black)
The police spokesperson noted that most of the recovered vehicles showed signs of tampering, with broken locks and starter switches, indicating they had been broken into during the theft process.
The search for Martin Byekwaso continues as police continue their investigation into the theft ring.
