Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Amon Mwesigye, who was found hanging in a lodge.
Martial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Region police, reported that the incident occurred on Thursday night at Planet Bar and Lodge in Kigoma Trading Center, Kizinda-Kigoma Town Council, Bushenyi District.
According to initial reports, Mwesigye visited the lodge for an evening out and later requested accommodation, which was provided by lodge attendant Maureen Kyosimire.
Kyosimire stated that Mwesigye appeared normal when he was given a room for the night. He asked for a padlock to secure himself in his room, but the request was denied by the attendant.
Tumusiime explained that on Friday morning, Anita Alinda, the bar’s owner, discovered Mwesigye’s lifeless body hanging from a rope tied to the ceiling timber, prompting her to alert the police.
The lodge and bar have since been closed for investigation as they are considered crime scenes.
Tumusiime mentioned that Mwesigye’s body has been taken to Kitagata Hospital for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
